Multibook is a learning system. Therefore, free navigation – the usual way to explore a hypertext system – is restricted. The modular knowledge base containing meta information makes it possible to present diverse views. To meet the requirements of various users, Multibook generates on-the-fly individual guided tours. Different user groups obtain different tables of contents (and therewith different lessons).

The model behind Multibook is a teacher who, according to the audience, compiles an outline. In a second step the appropriate information  and the presentation format are selected. Like a teacher, Multibook can change the conception if the learner is for example overtaxed or bored.
